Eli Kaitari on STATUS FM: Very Strong Demand for IT Professionals, Especially in Thessaloniki and Northern Greece. Working Abroad Is No Longer the Only Option

Eli Kaitari, HR Manager of Dotsoft S.A., spoke to Status FM 107.7 about the significant employment opportunities opening up for young people studying IT in Greece and Thessaloniki.

Ms Kaitari stressed that demand for employees in the IT sector has increased significantly in recent years, noting that “the hiring index in IT stood at 11% in the first quarter of 2025, which shows that demand for people with digital skills remains very strong. In practice, this means that young people entering the sector now have the opportunity to be absorbed directly into the labour market, not only in Athens, but also in cities such as Thessaloniki, where technology hubs have been continuously developing in recent years.”

The IT sector absorbs many professionals mainly because it has many “branches”, as Ms Kaitari points out: “We are not only talking about programmers, as there are positions for people from different backgrounds: from engineers and data analysts to archaeologists or museologists working on cultural projects using digital tools. At Dotsoft, for example, we employ approximately 300 people across Greece in projects covering different sectors: from culture, where philologists and archaeologists work with us, to Smart Cities, where engineers and people from the sciences are employed, as well as digitisation projects, where professionals from all specialisations are involved.”

The demands of the modern labour market are no longer limited only to formal qualifications. In other words, it is not enough for someone to know only their subject area, as Dotsoft’s HR Manager explains: “We want people who love what they do, who listen, collaborate, and respect their colleagues and clients. This is what will make the difference between candidates.”

At Dotsoft, there are also employment opportunities for students beyond internships. As Ms Kaitari states, “the company is in contact with the career offices of many universities, presentations are held at academic departments, we come into direct contact with young people, we get to know them, they learn about the company, and we also learn about them. This is how an interest in employment begins. We have part-time employees so that they can combine work and studies, which is important because someone starts early and gains the necessary social skills, such as those we have already mentioned. At Dotsoft, we also have examples of people who started as part-time student employees and are now among our experienced executives.

In recent years, for young people studying IT, companies such as DOTSOFT have offered employment opportunities with excellent working conditions, career development prospects, and remuneration. “Thessaloniki and Northern Greece want to keep their people here. Working abroad is always an option, but I would say that it is certainly no longer the only path,” Ms Kaitari clarifies. A major attraction for young people in the IT sector is the research and innovation developed by DOTSOFT, through projects that have a real impact on society and contribute to a better tomorrow, such as projects related to fire safety and forest fire prevention.
