Provision of Support Services in the Development and Implementation of an Inventory, Reporting and Monitoring Data Management System for Specially Protected Natural Areas (parks Shirvan and Hirkan), for The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in support of FAO Partnership and Liaison Office in Azerbaijan. The project contributed to strengthening the planning and management capacity of the system of Specially Protected Natural Areas (SPNAs) in Azerbaijan with a strategic focus on delivering project support to:
1) enhancing the financial sustainability of SPNAs
2) building information management systems for SPNAs and
3) establishing and administering buffer zones with more sustainable resource use in areas directly adjacent to SPNAs.
Scope of Work:
1) Assessed the baseline state
2) Built on the baseline state above, conducted a needs analysis
3) Built on the baselines state and needs analysis above, evaluated and made explicit recommendations on the most practical and cost-effective solution components
4) Based on the recommendations, supported the MENR in the phased implementation of an inventory, reporting and monitoring data management system for SPNAs, including training and mentoring services.
