UNECE web site was using a legacy CMS technology, making the update and maintenance an unproductive and time-consuming task. This legacy CMS (Typo3) posed several problems. These problems ranged from the time it took to editors and content managers to interact and update the content of the site, to the difficulties of correcting and upgrading code. Furthermore, the current CMS was long past its end of life support date and therefore presented an IT security risk, since no updates for this software were provided. Drupal 8 was considered a stable and very powerful platform and it was already tested at various UN websites. The migration to Drupal 8 did not only solve many of technical problems but it also speeded up and simplified the maintenance and support work. Since Drupal 8 was announced to reach end of life in 11/2021, DOTSOFT delivered the migration to Drupal 9, providing improved security and enhanced features.
