UNECE: Website Migration to Drupal

UNECE: Website Migration to Drupal

IT Services for the Migration of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Main Website to Drupal, in Compliance with United Nations Standards.

The project involved the migration of the UNECE website from a legacy CMS (Typo3) to a modern, secure, and scalable platform. The previous system presented significant challenges, including inefficient content management, difficulties in code maintenance, and increased security risks due to the end of support. The migration to Drupal 8 and subsequently to Drupal 9 resolved these issues by improving performance, simplifying maintenance, and strengthening security. The new platform provides a solid foundation for future development and aligns with the best practices applied across United Nations websites.

Project Objective

The project aimed to eliminate the technical and security risks associated with the legacy CMS, simplify content management processes, and improve the overall performance of the website. It sought to provide a stable and user-friendly platform that supports efficient updates, scalability, and compliance with modern security standards.

Scope of Work

The scope of work included the migration of a large volume of content from the legacy system to Drupal, the hosting of two environments, and the preparation of technical documentation and knowledge transfer sessions. It also included training for UNECE staff, warranty services, and ongoing maintenance and support. The migration ensured improved security, enhanced functionality, and long-term sustainability for UNECE’s digital presence.
