Project description:
A mobile application will be developed, covering the regions of Imathia and Pieria. These two prefectures of Central Macedonia have a rich history (Ancient Aigai, excavations of Macedonian tombs, Aristotle School), Religion (Step of the Apostle Paul, Byzantine and post-Byzantine churches, monasteries), Nature (rivers, bio habitats, national parks), outdoor activities (hiking, biking, skiing, mountain climbing), vineyards, wineries (22 total), and culture.
The project targets the travelers’ need to follow the ethics of slow and sustainable tourism, promoting the local and regional tourism industry (accommodation, food and drink, local shops).
While using the GINO mobile application, the traveler can access specific tour agencies touristic packages, as well as information and guidance on routes, trails, places of interest (POIs), activities, local business and service providers. Through the app, the traveler can ‘visit’ the places of interest, with photos, videos, along with an 'augmented reality' (AR) capability. Information on local events such as festivals, music concerts and/or carnivals can also be accessed. In addition, the travelling preferences and interests of the user will be recorded in order to suggest suitable routes and places of interest that can be visited.
