Smart employee safety monitoring system using artificial intelligence and biometric data

The safeWithCARMEN project introduces an innovative artificial intelligence–based platform designed to monitor and improve workplace safety, aiming to prevent accidents through precise and real-time intervention.
Through the integration of advanced technologies such as biometric sensors, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Large Language Models (LLMs), and Augmented Reality (AR), the system monitors the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as well as workers’ health status in real time.
The system uses data from smart wearable devices and environmental sensors, generating a comprehensive view of workers’ well-being and enabling the identification of high-risk conditions.
A key differentiating feature of safeWithCARMEN is its context-aware notification system, which triggers alerts only when PPE non-compliance occurs during high-risk tasks, thereby reducing false positives.
The system contributes to creating a safer working environment by providing actionable insights for risk prevention, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting both the physical and mental well-being of workers in high-risk industries.
Type and scope of work provided
- The development of a fully integrated digital platform combining AI technologies, biometric sensors, LLMs, and AR
- Collection and real-time analysis of biometric data from smart wearable devices (e.g., heart rate, body temperature)
- Design of predictive models for automatic recognition of workers’ activities and emotional states, aiming at estimating risk levels
- Integration of large language models (LLMs) for voice-based, hands-free communication between workers and the system
- Development of an augmented reality (AR) application on smart glasses for real-time monitoring and alerts for supervisors
- Application of privacy-preserving techniques, such as Federated Learning, to ensure the security of sensitive data
SafeWithCARMEN provides organizations with a preventive safety management tool that combines real-time data collection with predictive analytics, enhancing worker safety, regulatory compliance, and a culture of prevention, while improving operational performance. Its scalable architecture enables deployment across various high-risk industries.
