Implementation of monitoring and management of the work of the Cleaning Directorate
Smart waste management is an investment in a better quality of life and a sustainable future
FleetoWaste is an integrated smart waste collection management system that combines sensors, telematics, applications, and navigation systems. Its objective is to enhance efficiency, reduce operating costs, and provide a higher level of cleanliness services for Municipalities and their citizens.
FleetoWaste | “Integrated Waste Management”
Its main subsystems are:
1.Incident Recording & Route Update Application
This application enables drivers and cleaning staff to record problems they encounter during waste collection. Through dedicated equipment, namely a button panel, incidents are automatically sent to the cleaning service, enriched with geographic location data. In this way, the municipal service can assess, route, and monitor the resolution of each report.
Features:
- Recording of cleanliness-related problems through category buttons.
- Automatic transmission of location and incident type.
- Web-based report management environment.
- Ability to route reports automatically or manually.
2.Waste Collection Mapping, Organisation & Management System
The mapping system uses sensors installed on waste collection vehicles and bins to fully monitor the waste collection process. It records and displays, in real time, the movements and actions of the vehicles, while creating a digital map of all bins. In this way, it provides municipal officers with a live overview of cleanliness operations and valuable data for route organisation.
Features:
- Real-time live overview of waste collection operations.
- Automated mapping and recording of bin locations.
- Reports on the number of collections per vehicle, area, or period.
- Indication of vehicle fill level and bin lifting frequency.
- Correlation of data with GIS for route optimisation.
3.Driver Route Navigation Subsystem
The navigation subsystem supports drivers in carrying out their routes, especially in cases of new or temporary drivers who are not familiar with the routes. Through a tablet installed in the vehicle cabin, drivers have access to dynamic instructions, maps, and voice guidance, while being immediately informed of changes to the collection schedule.
Features:
- Tablet installed in the vehicle cabin with map and instructions.
- Turn-by-turn directions and voice guidance.
- Dynamic updates in cases of route changes.
- Recording of routes, stops, and serviced bins.
- Role-based access and personalised routes.
4.Wireless Bin Weighing Application
The weighing application enables the automatic recording of the weight of each bin during collection, linking the information with the bin’s identity and exact geographic location. Sensors and RFID tags ensure reliable measurements even under difficult conditions, while the data is transmitted to a central database for further processing and analysis.
Features:
- Automatic weighing and identification of bins through sensors.
- Connection with a telematics unit (GPS/GPRS) for data transmission.
- Weighing reports per vehicle, route, area, and time period.
- Data export to Excel and charts.
- Durable sensors with self-diagnosis and recalibration capability.
5.Fuel Tank Access Control Subsystem
The access control subsystem protects the fuel of waste collection vehicles from unauthorised actions. The smart fuel cap features BLE technology, sends real-time alerts, and activates an alarm in case of tampering. In this way, the system ensures transparency in fuel management and reduces the risk of theft.
Features:
- Smart fuel cap with BLE 5.1 encryption.
- Email/SMS alerts for every access or attempted theft.
- Remote monitoring capability.
- Additional mechanical locking and LED indication.
- Alarm activation in case of unauthorised access.
6.Outreach & Interconnection with Citizens and Businesses
a. Real-Time Waste Collection Map
FleetoWaste implements an open and transparent citizen information platform, accessible from both computers and mobile devices. All data is stored in a central database, ensuring interoperability with other systems and the utilisation of existing infrastructure.
The platform provides:
- Interactive map displaying waste bins by category.
- Display of the collection schedule and the latest collection per bin.
- Published waste collection vehicle routes for full information of residents.
- Ability for citizens to log in with personal credentials to submit requests or complaints using predefined options, such as emergency emptying, bin relocation, improper collection, or schedule adjustment requests.
b. Business Information Platform
- Businesses register on a dedicated platform and declare the bins that serve them.
- They receive personalised messages, via push notification, SMS, or email, with the exact arrival time of the waste collection vehicle.
- Their daily operations are improved, parking problems and delays are avoided, and a collaborative relationship is developed between the Municipality and local professionals.
Reports & Statistics
- Reports on the number of collections per vehicle, driver, and area.
- Collection frequency at neighbourhood or municipal unit level.
- Comparison of planned and actual routes.
- Cost and time statistics for efficiency assessment.
Benefits for the Municipality & Citizens
- Efficiency: reduction of fuel costs, time, and vehicle wear.
- Transparency: objective recording of each waste collection operation.
- Quality of life: cleaner urban environment and faster response.
- Sustainability: smaller environmental footprint through smarter planning.
FleetoWaste is an integrated information system for the organisation and management of the municipal cleaning sector, combining cutting-edge technology, internal operational organisation, and outward-facing communication. It ensures efficiency, reduces costs, strengthens the trust of citizens and businesses, and makes a decisive contribution to the transition of Municipalities into the new era of “smart cleanliness”.
