Free Public Wi-Fi System and Expansion of the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)

Wireless internet access points (Wi-Fi hotspots) will be installed at key locations throughout the city, including public squares, municipal buildings and other gathering places. At the same time, Florina’s optical network infrastructure will be upgraded through the expansion of its Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), enabling faster and more secure data transmission between municipal services.

Expected benefits:

• Residents and visitors will be able to access the internet free of charge through designated Wi-Fi hotspots, encouraging the use of digital services and enhancing the overall user experience.
• The expansion of the fibre-optic network will enable faster communication between municipal buildings and infrastructure, improving the efficiency of services such as e-government and administrative operations.

Public Infrastructure and Utility Remote Management System (Smartiscity Smart City Platform)

The project also includes the implementation of an integrated information system that centrally manages various city functions, including parking, public lighting, water supply, waste management and traffic. Based on the Internet of Things (IoT) concept, the platform collects data from sensors and connected devices and transforms it into actionable information for citizens, businesses and municipal administrators.

Expected benefits:

• Real-time monitoring will enable more efficient use of energy resources by allowing the Municipality to adjust infrastructure operation according to actual demand, such as reducing electricity consumption during low-traffic periods.
• In the event of failures or malfunctions, the system will automatically notify the relevant municipal departments, reducing response times and preventing unnecessary delays.
• The unified management of smart city applications will improve the overall efficiency and flexibility of city operations.
