Smart Infrastructure and Digital Transformation for the Open Trade Centre of the Municipality of Oraiokastro
The Municipality of Oraiokastro is implementing a major upgrade of its urban environment through the deployment of advanced technological infrastructure as part of the Open Trade Centre project.
The project, “Supply and Installation of Smart City and Sustainable Urban Mobility Systems,” aims to enhance the overall operation and image of the Municipality of Oraiokastro by leveraging advanced technological solutions and digital infrastructure. Through the integration of four complementary subsystems, the project improves accessibility, environmental awareness, energy efficiency, and the quality of life for residents and visitors.
Scope of Work
Free Wi-Fi Access System
The Free Wi-Fi system provides free wireless internet access in busy public areas across the municipality, enhancing digital inclusion, accessibility and the visitor experience. The infrastructure includes high-speed networking equipment, secure connectivity and an easy-to-use access mechanism for citizens and visitors.
Environmental Monitoring System
The system consists of sensors that monitor key environmental parameters such as air quality, temperature, humidity and noise levels. The collected data is displayed through a dedicated platform, supporting informed decision-making on environmental issues and sustainable development initiatives.
Smart Urban Furniture (Smart Benches)
The project includes advanced smart benches equipped with photovoltaic panels, LED lighting and USB charging ports for mobile devices. These installations combine functionality with contemporary design, creating upgraded public spaces focused on energy autonomy and innovation.
Public Infrastructure and Network Remote Management System
This system enables the remote monitoring and management of critical municipal infrastructure, including public lighting, information displays and sensors within the intervention area. It provides scheduling, automation and alert capabilities, contributing to improved energy efficiency and reduced operating costs for the municipality.
Technology Serving Citizens and Sustainable Development
Through the implementation of the “Supply and Installation of Smart City and Sustainable Urban Mobility Systems” project, Oraiokastro is taking a significant step towards becoming a modern, sustainable and connected city. The new infrastructure—from smart environmental monitoring systems and intelligent urban furniture to the Free Wi-Fi network and remote infrastructure management capabilities—creates an environment that promotes innovation and improves quality of life. Oraiokastro is strengthening its identity as a smart, sustainable and citizen-oriented municipality that invests in technology for the benefit of its community and local development.
The sub-project “Supply and Installation of Smart City and Smart Sustainable Mobility Systems”, part of the “Open Trade Centre of the Municipality of Oraiokastro” project, has been funded under the Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Operational Programme 2014–2020.
