The project concerns the digitization, scientific documentation, management, and digital promotion of the historical and cultural heritage of HELEXPO – TIF, utilizing modern cultural informatics technologies, multichannel applications, and interactive user experiences.

As part of the project, 10,000 archival items are being digitized and documented, including photographs, posters, objects, drawings, audio files, and video material related to the long history of the Thessaloniki International Fair, cultural events, and thematic exhibitions organized by HELEXPO – TIF.

The digitized material covers major events and thematic areas, including:

• Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF)
• Song Festivals and music events
• Film Festivals
• Numerous historical exhibitions and events organized by HELEXPO

The documentation process is based on open metadata standards and linked open data technologies, supporting interoperability and enabling the integration of cultural content into international digital platforms such as Europeana, the National Documentation Centre of Greece (EKT), and Wikipedia.

The project also includes the development of advanced digital applications and multichannel cultural presentation services, including:

• Audiovisual guided tour applications
• Three-dimensional navigation applications
• Interactive educational applications
• A multichannel web portal for cultural content presentation
• A digital asset management and presentation system

In addition, the project includes the installation of specialized equipment, including information points, presentation systems, VR devices, portable guide devices, servers, digitization equipment, and hosting infrastructure for the developed applications.

The solution strengthens the preservation, protection, and sustainable exploitation of HELEXPO’s cultural heritage, offering visitors, researchers, and educational institutions a modern digital environment for cultural experience and historical knowledge.
