Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki: Virtual Museum and Digital Applications

Digitization, documentation, and development of interactive digital applications for the promotion of the ecclesiastical and cultural heritage of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki

DOTSOFT S.A. collaborates with the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki in the implementation of the project “Digitization & Documentation, Supply of a Material Management Application, and Development of a Virtual Museum and Digital Applications for the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki”, aiming at the preservation, protection, and digital promotion of its ecclesiastical and cultural heritage.

Project Objective

The project includes extensive digitization, processing, and scientific documentation of historical records and ecclesiastical material dating from 1830 to the present day. The digitized material includes ecclesiastical books, icons, photographs, and archival records of significant cultural and historical value.

As part of the implementation, DOTSOFT S.A. develops comprehensive digital applications and cultural experience services, including:

  • A virtual museum of Ecclesiastical Art.
  • Digital exhibitions utilizing virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) technologies.
  • Virtual tour applications for the premises of the Metropolis and the Ecclesiastical Museum.
  • A digital educational platform for children and young people.
  • Digital museum kits and interactive augmented presentations of cultural content.

At the same time, a management and organization system for the digitized material is being implemented, enabling the secure storage, retrieval, and utilization of cultural assets through modern digital infrastructures.

The solution contributes significantly to the preservation of the ecclesiastical history and cultural identity of Thessaloniki, enhancing access for citizens, visitors, researchers, and educational institutions to important historical and religious content through modern interactive technologies.

The project is co-funded by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund – ERDF) and national resources through the Public Investment Programme.
